So this is my first drawing on my new drawing tablet & laptop. The last time I drew anything, was years and years ago. Not counting the simple pixel art I’ve done here and there, but this, actually drawing and using my hands to create something from nothing. I’m honestly impressed with the outcome.

It started with lines here and there, the shape of the eye and the outer red vein like objects. I then started shading the eye, and the different shades of red throughout. The eyelash like objects gave form shortly after, with different shades of dark grey. Then there was the shaded lines between the vein objects, which ended up looking like muscle tissue. Lastly, came the green vein like objects, and finishing it off with the smaller ones.

My inspiration for the drawing started from nothing, just putting lines together for the most part. Then I saw an eye, and started going that direction. It reminded me of a dragon’s eye, which is where the red began, I was going for scales originally. From there I started seeing more organic shapes and figures.

Depending on how I look at it there are a few different images I see. The obvious, an eye that has a strong gaze towards you. An amoeba crawling the surface of muscle tissue, where it either controls the green veins or it doesn’t, up to you. Or more interestingly, pareidolia stimulation that projects out to see a finished face in this form. With an ear on the right, cheeks bellow, followed by a mouth, and a nose to the left. Kind of cool.

Overall, the drawing doesn’t have too much meaning to me, besides the satisfaction of completing it. I like it tho, definitely impressed with what I was able to create with no prior experience with this sort of art form. I’m starting to work on a new piece, it’s fun.

I’m using GIMP for my toolset, I’ve always liked it. A free, open source Photoshop like software. In comparison to drawing on paper, it’s great to be able to separate pieces by layers to prevent permanency on mistakes. Makes things a bit simpler I’d imagine. With being able to undo, redo, erase cleanly, etcetera.

There still definitely is some tedium experienced tho. Painting the same thing over and over in a slightly different way. Tho, maybe to create something impactful there always will be those hurdles. I enjoyed it tho, takes my mind off things and lets me focus on pure creation.
